In this activity, I really wanted the children to consider the natural world and the man-made world. I wanted them to consider how the two interact, who imposes on who, and how can we coexist in a way that respects both worlds? Growing up in a city is a challenging life for a child. They are raised in an environment with many people, buildings and modes of transportation. I wanted to ask them to take some time to reflect on what the area they lived in was like before the city was built? And moving into the future, how can we ensure that the development of cities does not remove all signs of the nature that currently exists?
